Flower visors, anyone?

Hi all! The other day, I made my first fabric flower and got SO HOOKED on making these, that I made a few more, in different flower styles, even! I also had a bunch of visors that I had ordered from a friend years ago {circa 2006}, but never ended up doing anything with them. Well, lucky me - I rediscovered them and pinned the fabric flowers on them and they are JUST ADORABLE! Aren't these fun for the spring and summer? We've gotten quite a warm up in weather here in Southern CA - it was mid 70's yesterday - that these visors would be perfect to use out and about. How cute to have a visor for the beach, too, don't you think? Here's a close up of the flowers I made. I used the flower folds die for one of them, and for the other two, I created the flowers using the scallop circle #2 dies! Here are closeup's of the different flowers: This first flower is made the same way I created my first fabric flower post. The fabric is also part of that same pre-packaged quilting squares I used!
This flower is made using both scallops on the Scallop Circles #2 Bigz die. It's only 2 layers instead of 3, but you use the same method as the flower folds flower in putting it together.
This last flower also uses the Scallop Circles #2 Bigz die. The only difference is when I folded it in half, I actually offset the fold so it wasn't quite in half - that way, the reverse side would peak through and give it some extra dimension.

Now that I've made a few of these, I think I want to order some more visors! I've been doing some research and have found this site carries the Anvil visors, but haven't ordered from them before, so I may do some more research. They're a pretty good price though! Embellishment Birthday Mojo!

Hi blog peeps! Happy President's Day {for those of you in the US}! It's been a long time since I've played in a Mojo Monday or Embellishment challenge, so I'm so excited I got to finally participate...in both! Primarily because I have the day off {yay!} and got to squeeze in a quick card before getting my day into full swing. Here are the inspiration photos: I have to say that the color palette was sort of a challenge for me with the Blue thrown in, but I had a fun time figuring out my color schemes. The colors I used are SU!'s Chocolate Chip, Old Olive, Melon Mambo, and Buckaroo Blue {retired}. I decided I wanted to mix some printed DSP together and was pretty pleased with the outcome! Here's the full card for you: Hope you like it! I actually started with the cupcakes, which was an extra scrap piece from cards I had made a while back, so I created the rest around that. I ended up using all kinds of punches, stamp sets, and goodies, too. Here's the recipe for you:

making my first fabric flower pin

Good morning and Happy Saturday! I've been intrigued with the fabric flower pins that I've been seeing on blogs, stores, and magazines lately, so I thought it was time to deconstruct it and make my own! Luckily, there are lots of helpful tutorials on this, so it wasn't too difficult to figure it out. I found this video by Christie Daugherty to be super helpful! I thought I'd do a quick pictorial of the steps and components for this pretty flower pin. So here we go...
For the pin I made, I used the Flower folds die to create 3 flower layers. I've circled the flowers on the die cut that I used. You might be wondering what kind of fabric I used for this - well I just went to JoAnn's and bought a pack of pre-packaged quiltiing squares that are about 5" precut squares that happen to be sized perfectly for these flowers. They are just light-weight regular fabric, although I know that other folks have used heavier upholstery fabric as well. One 5" fabric square will cover the 2 smaller flowers, and you'll need another square to cover the bigger flower. Each flower uses 4 pieces of fabric, so I picked out 4 different patterns to create each petal. That means you'll need to stack your 4 fabric squares on top of the two smaller flowers on the die and the other 4 squares on the bigger flower. Once the pieces are positioned, you're ready to run it through your Big Shot. Next, you'll want to arrange your 3 flower layers like so: You'll fold each fabric flower in half and then create each flower by "weaving" the 4 flowers over each other. You'll end up with 3 flowers that have 4 heart petals in each of the different fabric prints, as you can see pictured above. You'll want to secure each of the layers with a glue gun (you should watch the video in the link above to see exactly how to do this). Once you have your flower all glued together, you can finish off the back with a pin and the felt scallop circle (again using the glue gun to adhere).
And here's a picture of the front, where I added the button to finish off my flower!
And...viola! Here's the finished flower pinned to the bag. So fun!

You gotta try it out! Fabric Flowers are all the rage these days. You can decorate your bags, shirts, sweaters, even make hair clips - whatever you want! Plus, they make great personalized gifts, too. Hope you enjoyed this! Now, go out and make your own flower pin ;)

valentine treats!

Happy Friday, blog peeps! I have some Valentine treats to share with you...they were my little farewell/Valentine treats to my co-workers, since this was my last day at my current job. Yes - you heard right! I am moving on to a new job and start next Tuesday. No more 110-mile round trip commute. Yay! I'm very excited. I'll still have a commute (it'll be shorter), but I'm so psyched about the work I'll be doing that I think I can definitely handle it! I'll be back doing interactive marketing at an internet company. :)

So, where were we? Ah, yes. The TREATS!! Here they are: I am just soo in LOVE with that little Monkey from the Fox and Friends stamp set. He also fits perfectly in the Full Heart Punch! I made him a little more valentines-y by adding the Small Heart punch at the end of his tail. Too stinkin' cute, I tell ya!
Here's a look at a few assembled ones. I had the lofty goal of making one for everyone in my department. But, time was of the essence, so...
I made a total of 6 for our department. I ended up making little love note cards for the rest of the folks, so I was able to give them a little something.

Isn't that a cute little title? Well, it's actually the name of my card! I used the Love You Much sentiment from the Well Scripted stamp set and used the Sweet Pea Designer Series Paper Stack to add a pop of subtle, soft textured print. Here's a look at the full card - I really like how girly-ish it came out. As you can see, I'm still on the same color combo as my prior post. I think I'm just really into the kraft with the pretty in pink color combo. I love the small flower from the Vintage Vogue stamp set and the dotted heart from the I {Heart} Hearts stamp set. I'd say this card is part Valentines-y and part spring-ish. What do you think? Here's the recipe for you:

So {INSPIRED}

I was inspired to create this card...well let's say I basically CASED the sketch...from Dawn McVey's card on this post. I just love Dawn's style!! Of course, I translated this card into fun Stampin'UP! goodies I recently got from the Occasions Mini - the paper is from the Sweet Pea Designer Paper Pad, and the beautiful stamp is from the Vintage Vogue stamp set. So pretty, don't you think? It's so simple and quick to put together, too! I think that's why I love this layout. This particular card isthe one I made for my friend Robin. I also ended up using this design for one of my swap cards for a new swap group I'm in called the SWAP Team. Fun, eh? Here's another look at the card. So, one thing I love about the clear mount stamp sets is the placement of the stamp. It's so cool to be able to know exactly where that stamp is gonna land on my white space! I also can't get enough of the Scallop Trim Border punch. Fun fun. Here's the quick recipe:
